    Was speaking to somebody earlier and they said they never really had a clue what all the PS3 updates actually do. So I thought Id create a topic listing all the updates to save you trawling through the crappy PS3 website. I will update it each time a new update comes through.

    Main features that are new or revised - Version 1.60 - 22/03/2007

    Precision Zoom and Resolution settings (Internet Browser)

    Precision Zoom: You can automatically enlarge with pinpoint accuracy the area on the screen where the cursor is located. By analysing the web page source, the system automatically calculates the best enlargement rate based on the area where the cursor is located.
    Resolution settings: You can adjust web page size for optimal viewing based on the PS3 system's video output resolution. A setting to reduce flickering of the screen when outputting in interlace mode has also been added.


    Full-size keyboard

    You can now use a full-size on-screen keyboard to enter text.

    Folding@home™

By starting the Folding@home™ program that is installed on a PS3 system, you can participate in this project over the Internet.

    Remote play via an access point

    Support for playback of DSD (Direct Stream Digital) discs has been added.*

    You can now use Game Save data from PlayStation format software on both the PS3 system and the PSP system.

    By copying Game Save data from the PS3 system to the PSP system, you can do the following:

    By copying Game Save data that was created on PS3 to your PSP, you can continue playing the game from where you left off when you leave the house.¹
    By copying Game Save data that was created on PSP to your PS3, you can continue playing the game from where you left off when you get home.¹
    You can copy Game Save data that was created on PlayStation (PS one) or PlayStation 2 to the PSP system and use the Game Save data on the PSP system.²


    ¹ Requires PlayStation format software that is compatible with both PSP and PS3. Software compatible with this feature is scheduled be made available soon.
    ² Copy the saved data to the PS3 system's Hard Disk Drive (HDD) using a Memory Card Adaptor (sold separately), and then copy the saved data to the PSP system. PlayStation format software that is compatible with the PSP system is required to use the saved data on the PSP system.


    Copying Game Save data from a PS3 system to a PSP system

    Connect the PS3 system and the PSP system together using a USB cable (you must have Memory Stick Duo media inserted in the PSP system).
    Select [USB Connection] under [Settings] on the PSP system.
    Select the icon for the saved data from [Game] > [Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)] > [Internal Memory Card (PS)] on the PS3 system, and then press the TRIANGLE button.
    Select [Copy] from the options menu, and then select [PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable)] as the save destination. To make saved data usable on a PSP system you must convert the data format. If a confirmation screen is displayed, select [Yes] to proceed.
    Select the save destination for the saved data. Multiple [Internal Memory Card (PS)] will be created on the PSP system's Memory Stick Duo for each game. Select any of these as the save destination.


    Copying Game Save data from a PSP system to a PS3 system

    Connect the PS3 and PSP systems using a USB cable (you must have Memory Stick Duo media inserted in the PSP system).
    Select [USB Connection] under [Settings] on the PSP system.
    Select the icon for the saved data from [Game] > [Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)] > [PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable)] on the PS3 system, and then press the TRIANGLE button.
    Select [Copy] from the options menu, and then select the save destination.
    To use this feature, the system software of the PSP system must be version 3.40 or later.

    If you place the Memory Stick Duo media in the PS3 system's Memory Stick Duo slot or use a USB adaptor, the saved data will not be recognised. You must connect the PS3 system and the PSP system together using a USB cable.

    Voice Changer

    Using this feature, you can change the tone of a voice that is input from an audio device such as a microphone. High and low-pitched tones can each be adjusted to five preset levels. You can vary the tone when using voice / video chat under Friends.

    You can now select [Type 3] as an option under Settings > [Music Settings] > [Bitmapping]. This bitmapping process was developed specifically for the PS3TM system to enhance audio playback.

    DivX and VC-1 (WMV) have been added to the types of files that can be played. *

    You can now play a music track while editing a playlist.

    You can now play DivX and WMV format files that are 2GB or larger.

    A [Mosquito Noise Reduction] option has been added under [AV Settings] in the control panel for standard DVDs.
    You can now play BD-R version 1.2 (LTH* BD-R) discs.

    You can now change some PS3 system settings during remote play.
    [Save Target] has been added as an option under [File] in the browse mode menu of the Internet browser. This option lets you save a file that is linked from a Web page, such as an image or video file, or other type of file, to your PS3 system's hard drive or storage media.
    The Internet browser now displays some Web pages more quickly.
    Using the Internet browser, you can now play a linked video file* as it is being downloaded.
    * Some types of video files cannot be viewed in this manner and must be downloaded completely before playback.

    You can now print images from a playlist.
    You can now sort items that are grouped in a folder by month or year using the [Film Date] options.

    Music
    You can now use a mini-size control panel while playing music.
    You can now play music content encoded in MP3 Surround format.*
    * MP3 Surround can only be played in Linear PCM output.


    Video
    You can now use the [Frame Noise Reduction] and [Block Noise Reduction] settings for video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media.
    You can now play upscaled video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media. When the video content is played, it is upscaled automatically to fit the screen size.
    Upscaling of Blu-ray Disc (BDAV) video content is now supported.
    For DTS playback on DVD-Video and Blu-ray Disc media, DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 for DVD-Video and DTS-ES Matrix for Blu-ray Discs are now supported.*

    Game
    The procedure for quitting PlayStation 3 format software has been changed.
    You can now collect trophies in games that support the trophy feature.

    The number of Friends who can be added to a Friends list has been increased from 50 to 100.
    The [Information] screen has been redesigned and renamed as [Profile].

    Main features in system software update version 2.41 - 08/07/2008

    With this update, we have fixed the problem that has prevented a limited number of PS3 systems from activating properly after updating to version 2.40, which was caused by certain system administrative data being contained in the HDD.

    For those users who have updated to version 2.40 and have experienced the problem that the PS3 Home Menu (XMB) is not appearing, or no images are displaying on the screen, please contact Customer Service.

    We have confirmed that for those users who have successfully updated to version 2.40 and are able to activate the PS3 system, this problem will not occur on your PS3.

    Under [Video Settings], the [Cinema Conversion] and [Upscale] options have been renamed as [BD/DVD Cinema Conversion] and [BD/DVD Upscaler], respectively.

    [Power Save Settings] has been added as an option under Settings. To save power, the PS3 system and Wireless controllers can be set to turn off automatically after a certain period of inactivity.
    Under [Accessory Settings] > [Audio Device Settings], the method for reconnecting Bluetooth® devices has been changed.
    Under [Accessory Settings] > [Keyboard Type], you can now choose the following keyboard types: [German Keyboard (Switzerland)], [French Keyboard (Canada)] and [French Keyboard (Switzerland)].
    In the keyboard layout for [German Keyboard], the "Y" and "Z" keys have been switched and the "Q" and "A" keys have been switched.
    Under [Printer Settings] > [Printer Selection], you can now select printers that support network connectivity. You can also select HP printers using the [HP] option.


    Music
    You can now select one of nine volume output levels using the [Volume Control] setting on the control panel (or the mini-size control panel).
    [Pause] has been added as an icon on the mini-size control panel.


    Video
    You can now select one of nine volume output levels using the [Volume Control] setting on the control panel.
    [Scene Search] has been added as an option on the control panel.
    You can now use the [Mosquito Noise Reduction] setting for video content that is saved on the hard disk or storage media. Use this setting to reduce mosquito noise that appears on the edges of visual images.
    During BD (BDAV) and DVD playback, a technique known as "chroma upsampling" is now automatically selected based on the movement of objects within the video content and then applied to enhance images in the content.
    Game


    [Sync with Server] has been added as an option under [Trophy Collection].
    By pressing the PS button while playing PlayStation 3 format software, you can now view information from the [Settings and Connection Status List] option under [Network Settings].*

    You can now copy and paste text from a Web page viewed in the Internet browser.
    [Copy Address of This Page] and [Copy Address of This Link] have been added as options under [File] in the browse mode menu of the Internet browser.
    [Browser Security] has been added as an option to the browse mode menu of the Internet browser. The websites for the Web filtering services that used to be listed under [Bookmarks] have been moved under this new option.
    Friends

    The order in which Friends are listed in the Friends list has been changed. When you have pending requests to add Users as Friends, the icons for these Users are now displayed at the top of the Friends list.
    The maximum size for files that can be attached to messages has been increased to 3MB.
    Other

    Polish, Greek, Czech, Slovak, and Turkish can now be displayed in the Internet browser.

    Firmware update 3.10 released today, it took a while for me to download so i recommend downloading it as soon as possible.

    Updates are (from what Ive seen/read):
    - Customisable PSN cards, you can change the colour of them.
    - Facebook settings added to "account management".But no direct link to Facebook, so i guess you use the internet browser? :/
    - Polish added to system languages, meh

    Anything i missed be so kind as to mention it ^_^

    If you have trouble with syncing trophies just keep trying even if you keep getting an error it usually works. Takes me about 5-10 trys but it does it in the end >_>
